10: Cathy Fitzgerald talks about the joy of being a midwife, supporting mums suffering from postnatal depression, growing up with 5 brothers and the joy of living in the hinterlands.
I always say to mums, do not put too much pressure on yourself. Take one day at a time and seek support from those people that you really trust. Work at being with your baby. That is what is important. - Cathy Fitzgerald

In this episode I talk to Cathy Fitzgerald who grew up with 5 brothers in Ipswich, QLD. As a young girl she did a lot of sports and exercise is something that is still a big part of her life which she uses on a daily basis for self-care. Cathy also talks about how marrying her best friend was probably not the best thing she could have done, how she later separated, losing her mum and dad and meeting her now partner Carlos Sanchez (see episode#9). Today Cathy lives with Carlos in a converted shed on a big acreage with a lot of rain forest in the Noosa hinterlands. They have just finished building a sustainable wooden cottage "La Cabana” in the valley, which they rent out to people who want to escape the stress and experience true serenity without WiFi and electricity but the calming sounds of the rain forest, open fire, sometimes pure silence and a running creek.
